Agreed that Akismet is awesome at stopping spam. Not one has gotten through its filters to my site. I’ve only had one misidentified as spam even though it wasn’t. Highly recommend it.

I’m using Wordpress and have had really good luck with “Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam” plugin (http://www.theblog.ca/anti-spam). It uses a graphical word image and you get to pick the words. So far I’ve had 0 spam get through the word.

Interestingly enough I don’t find myself bombarded with Gold Sellers spamming my comments. It’s crap like Watch and Car advertisements. Basically anyone trying to get an irrelevant link.

Definitely every blogger needs a solid anti-spam system in place before starting because the reality is if you don’t… success may kill ya

I am guessing this is gold spammers new way of getting traffic to their websites. Reminds me of then they would send a whisper or tell to you. Now their new method is to sit by the mail box in a major city and just /say and peddle their wares that way.

Guessing they are getting desperate and need more, so hitting bloggers is their newest thing now. (I only know it as new, cause I haven’t seen it yet)I was hoping to get a IP from the person, but my stat counter didn’t nab it for me. Unless they are looking for pages, then setting up what they want to say then hitting a mass send at midnight to everyone. Or they are using spyware/bots to do their dirty work.

Either way, guess we need to stay vigilant and delete their comments quickly or set it up to make it harder to make comments. Just my 2cp.

Gold sellers just remind me of cockroaches really. But your log is your domain and you have to protect it from them as well as in the interest of protecting your readers as best you can from negative effects of it.

I don’t really have as much a problem before with Gold Sellers spamming my comments section. But lately they gotten out of hand and I can raise my own hand to delete every comments of theirs unless i have to resort to full moderation which i hate to have to do. Since i can blog while mobile i know any comment that drops by and if i need to remove it i can do it while mobile if i have to easily since i can do it on my IPhone and even while at work as it takes only a few sec to do. I’ve seen that they like to try and spam gold selling comments in the early morning when they think your not awake to see them sneak them in on your blog.
