Baby Steps in Kara

Last night when I finally logged on, my guild was still in Kara and, fortunately, had a slot opening for a healer, so I grabbed the consumables off my bank and joined the team on their merry way towards Opera.

It was a short venture, actually, we basically cleared a bit of the trash - Ushers, stagehands and the suchlike, then drew one Crone. As the event was starting, our MT had an RL issue which pretty much forced an almost instant disconnect, so there we stood, 9 people, in the middle of the cast from Oz, just one tank left and no time to reorganize.

It was a quick wipe and the raid folded afterwards. All in all, I think I spent less than 30 minutes in there.

My learnings: my +1173 healing (unbuffed) is, indeed, on the low end of the scale by several notches - basically the same issue I had in heroic Ramps the other night. The other thing is, contrary to pre-TBC raiding, in a 10-men things can go south really fast, even on trash pulls. While I can’t entirely compare the experiences since I played a DPS instead of healer back in the day, in good ole ZG or AQ20 you simply had more time to take emergency actions and react to degrading conditions. Back in the day, a wipe could take a full minute to unfold and complete, whereas in Kara, within 10 seconds you can have half of your raid down for the count. The room for mistakes is very narrow.

There’s little more I could experience in that limited visit. Given my handicaps and the fact that we had two better geared pallies in the raid, I focussed my efforts on cleansing, helping out on the second tank, and healing splash damage. I hope I’ll get to see more of the place soon, although I’m going to have to work on my gear more and fast.

That much +healing should be fine for Kara! Oz is a tough one, it may have been the case that your raid members were taking too much damage, rather than your heals being insufficient.

I agree on the no-room-for-mistakes concept, they’ve taken away a lot of the room for slack that the old-world instances used to have.

Nah, the Oz wipe was programmed the second the MT said “Oh crap, G2G immediately, soz” and logged :)

Hey just take from the experience the opportunity to improve your healing gear where possible ore full time Kara. I’m sure someone has a good pre Kara healing gear list around.

Naaaah, surely not, and if someone did, I’m sure they wouldn’t visit my blog and comment on it :)

Well gwaendar, I made a suggested gear list for Holy Priests and Resto Shamans. I have a 64 Paladin kicking around with a gear list for her as well. I’ll put it up and create a trackback here for your reference. =)

    Matt,

I was actually kidding, Zerei here and Nibucca of Mystic Chicanery have done an amazing work on pre-kara pallie healing gear already :)
