The new 2.3 GCD and Stopcasting on Live

As anticipated previously, the new GCD mechanism which prevents any command to be sent to the server while the client is under a global cooldown is causing issues for several classes.

Instead of going into the full details again, just know that the Blues are aware that this affects playing in a negative way and are working on a couple of improvements. The feedback thread on this is here on bluetracker.

On the positive side, for spells with casting times, the removal of the need for the /stopcasting crutch we used before is, in my experience, a good thing. I ran my first heroics last night (taking advantage of the lowered rep requirements), and since my gear is actually rather on the extreme lowest end for that, taking advantage of this without ever risking to cancel a Flash of Light (which would probably have meant another wipe) is the positive side to all this.

As too often, the final re-tweaking to the new GCD may however take some time, and we could very well end up with several months of getting used to the new system. I know, it’s annoying, but until it gets better, there’s little point in wallowing in rage or self-pity. The only thing we can do is adjust, and most of us will. The rest will, as usual, spend their time complaining, which is good, since they won’t generate server lag while on the forums.

I’m having a terrible time on my Rogue staying on a target in PVP when my latency spikes up a little. =( Sucks. Especially since I respec’d AR Prep, even more GCD’s to manage with 2 sets of cooldowns.
