Getting the right groups is still as much a challenge as on the old, almost deserted server we were on previously, probably because most of the people on the new one are totally sick and tired of running the same instances over and over.
I got lucky and nabbed a run to SV on Tuesday. I grabbed my second fragment, and that’s the only highlight. The rest of the run was just a disaster, we wiped thrice on trash right after the frag, and then called it.
Highlight of the run: the hunter who finally went “I swear this instance is bugged, my traps don’t work 50% of the time”.
So here’s how he was trapping: stand a bit behind me, to the side. Lay a trap. When the drood tank pulled, shoot his target and wait for it to be trapped.
Know what the bug was? Those 50% of the time where his traps never worked he was shooting… a caster naga.
Wednesday were just no luck for Arca for lack of a tank. I almost respecced… except my prot gear isn’t Arca-ready. At least I don’t feel so and wouldn’t feel comfy causing wipes in there.
Yesterday we had our hopes high, got a full group, our new guild’s MT (yes, single warrior MT approach. Don’t tell me, I’m not even attuned, I have no say, just a blog), Steptoe and his leet damage, and a feral druid also just after the frag. But it was not to happen. The MT had massive connection troubles that evening, disconnecting at the wrong times which, in general tend to cause wipes, and indeed, we didn’t experience any exceptions here. We had one unlucky pull with a big doggie linking to an eye, and a rogue who apparently never learned one valuable lesson about stealth: running straight into a mob facing you is a good way to unstealth fast.
So 4 wipes later we’re still only in the room of the first boss, the drood has enough and calls it quits, the MT warns that he’s running out of time… and right at that moment our super-rogue gets lead off the drood and decides to go AFK for 15 minutes (while we had two other guildies wanting to lend a hand). Needless to say, the warrior ran out of time and the group fizzled off.
And while I can’t blame the rogue for the overall miserable run, going AFK when you have lead is something which made me mad on two counts: First because I wasn’t Guild Leader anymore to kick him right there and then, and second because I didn’t get a chance to come up with some snarky way to tell him he was out which I could then have bragged about on here.
Long story short, still missing a fragment, guild raids Kara tonight and I won’t be able to play backup in case another healer leaves early. Argh. Life was a lot easier when all I was concerned about was BG and Arena, and getting more stamina on my PvP kit.

Sounds a bit funny, but sometimes groups can be like that and some PuG’s.
As much as PuG’s get a bad rap, i will actually admit i do like and enjoy PuG’s. Yes it rare you hear someone admit that. But as you know i’m guildless by choice, so every run, every instance is a PuG for me and i’ve done tons of them. Every friend i have came from a PuG i tanked. So many friends they tackle me when i try o log into WoW wanting me to tank their runs. Its funny.
However the fragments are not hard to get. The 2nd frag is in the back of the room in the corner with the VW mobs a bit after first boss in Arcatraz. The first boss in the Void Walker boss is lots of shadow damage. I use Shadow Aura. I’ve done that boss more times than i can remember now. The hardest thing is when the voids open on the ground and really hit you hard with damage. Tanking the boss i can tell you those voids are hard to see when the pop up. The best strat i found is to tank the boss getting firm aggro and them to keep the VW boss moving all the time. Stop and move, stop and move. You learn to see the voids on the floor well after that but the fight is easier i found that way. Its worked everytime i done that.
But Arcatraz i’ve found is really not that hard. I find that place fun on every tanking run. On the last boss just make sure someone in group can keep you stay put in the event Boss Skyriss drops fear on you and he will, may and can. Worst fight ever had was from the sec the fight start he FEARED the fight from begining to the very end it was sickening. What was worse we had a Priest & a Shadow Priest both full time raiders in Epiced out gear and none used fear ward to keep me from running silly all over the room. We wiped and both priest quit to go attend to their raid. It felt like a failure on that fight but as the tank i did everything i could while the 2 priest kept fear ward to themselves. I just had to laugh. Last time i had a shammy in group and the totems helped and was no problem with fear then.
I might have been giving the wrong impression with my recent complaints, but I’ll be the first to admit that the average PUG is usually pretty decent.
Only, the more spectacular failures happen from time to time and those horror stories just wait to be told on the internet, don’t they?
But the aborted Arc run was 4 guildies 1 PUG so that does qualify as a guild run in my book, and we failed miserably too.
I was the cause of one of the arse pulls that caused a wie but if tanky wasn’t Dcing every 2mins I think we woulda done it. I kinda copped on after that wipe I caused. I have no excuses for the rogue
