BG progression

I continued my quest for honour in order to gear up last night. Got two WSG games, both dreaful and long, drawn-out affairs.
The second game in particuliar was a total headscratcher for Steptoe and me. We started out with a 9v6 advantage for at least 15 minutes and had one cap in that time. One single lonely cap in more time than some full-fledged 10v10 games last. The opposition wasn’t a half-full preset either, it was a pure PUG v PUG.

I swear there’s bound to be some kind of mechanism which removes the brains of most horde players the very moment they reach 70 - in both games people were a lot more focussed in fooling around in the middle than doing abnormal stuff like protecting our flag carrier, our going after the enemy carrier.

In the middle of the honour grinding session, the AV weekend started. And suddenly, the frontal lobotomization we had just seen in WSG hit in there too. Where before we had several of those classical PvE with a bit of player opposition zergs that AV has become (not entirely satisfying but at least short and to the point), as soon as the Frostwolf emissaries had taken up residence in all major cities the zombies came out of the cellars.
Triple number of cave AFKers than usual. A good 20 players duking it out midfield while 10 of us were clearing marshalls. Our last game of the night was typically frustrating: an attack progressing damn fast, a skillful ninja cap of Stormpike Aid Station just as we were finishing off SP GY, followed by two equally fast hits on the Dun Baldar towers by that same drood + rogue duo.
Then two marshalls down while both GYs are still ticking, and Alliance doing the exactly right thing while they were still waiting for IB to cap - 10 of them trinked back to defense and managed to re-tag Aid Station, sending us all back to rez in Nowhere Near Combat Actionland. Masterfully executed. So back we go and relaunch our attack, while the same 15 mindless idiots continue ganging on some of their equally brainless Alliance peers midfield. In the meantime, the non-zombie alliance players caught up on our 10 minutes lead. The game ended while we had Vandar down to 30%.

One thing which AV weekend brought, though, was three seriously imba horde healers who kicked me out of my top spot. The only pity is that with me, that was 4 healers out of 10 in the offensive, which was ultimately our downfall.

Frankly, I’m looking forward to getting Group AVs back. Yes, there might be situations where we will get steamrolled by presets just like other BGs. On the other hand, I expect running in a game with a single AB preset group in there is going to bring a lot to the table too.

Last but not least, I can’t really make up my mind about the current AV game. In terms of farming honour for my Wellfare Epics, several 20-minutes games are great even if you lose. I also don’t miss the couple of 4-hour affairs I joined before the Battlegrounds were patched in. Still, there is probably a balance to be found to extend the games just a tiny bit longer. Sadly, Blizzard’s probably way too busy designing more content for the catassing few.
