The Long Road to Decent Gear

Gah. Ghostlands EU is still pretty much a desert in terms of getting 5-men past 23:00 server time. Got one Botanica run in a week and that’s it. And no drops for me in there.

So back to plan B - get BG rewards in order to grab gear enabling me to get Arena rewards. Right now, I need some better bracers, that’s now 4k honour to farm. I set myself to at least 1k per evening, not too easy when the BG queues are at least 20 minutes long in this forsaken Vindication Battlegroup.

Side request: Blizzard, merge Vindication EU with another BattleGroup so we can actually play more than we want, KTHXBAI. Althernatively, I might just have to start my campaign to convince Steptoe to PCT to a Blackout server instead.

AV weekend coming up so I should be able to get those bracers on Sunday. That also entails running WSG up to 5 more times (more on that below). Funny thing about AV. Since I haven’t respecced yet from last week’s arena efforts, I’ve made it a point to end up in the top three healers no matter how late I join. And the interesting thing is, gaining honour by being consistently top healer is both easy and pretty rewarding. While back at 60 it was really tough to feel as if my warlock really made any difference, on the pally the thanks for the healing never stop. When you get to a cluster of outnumbered team mates and after 5 minutes a GY has been capped because you’ve kept most of them alive, it’s a lot easier to see what you contributed.

Funny thing is, I glanced at my Frostwolf rep, and already halfway to Reverred. On my lock, I had been grinding to exalted in order to get both the PvP mount (got there 2 weeks after they changed the mount system and hence missed my chance to get the free riding skill with it. If I had been smart I would have thought about purchasing epic mechanoriding just before that patch. It only occurred to me that I missed that opportunity several weeks later) and the Tome of Shadow Force. It took me several weeks at 5-6 BGs a week, and the grind felt dreadful. On the healbot I didn’t even pay attention to it and it’s actually an enjoyable experience.

Speaking about WSG, though, it’s a different matter. I loved WSG on the lock, have had much fun there on various other DPS classes (mainly hunters). Healing in there as a pallie however is a different matter. The extremely mobile nature of a good WSG game doesn’t really mesh well with a class lacking H0Ts and with one single instant heal running on 15 secs cooldown and 20 yards range. There’s also the size - 10v10 makes a healer stand out a lot and gather quite some attention. In short, I don’t enjoy WSG. Plus, if I’m healing properly, the games tend to often stretch out in time, making for long, drawn out affairs when all I really want are those marks.

AB however is still fun. The dynamics here mesh well with a static healer. I have AB marks to by stuff until the end of time, or so it seems.

As for EoTS, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Too often there’s a big zerg a bit away from the flag spawning point, and most PUGs apparently don’t really know where to begin in order to create a success trend which will lead to victory. Of course, being on an underpopulated battlegroup where EoTS tends to have the longest queues doesn’t really help.

Anyway, back to AV tonight. Vandar needs several of his opponents healed.
