Funny how history repeats itself sometimes.
It’s Spring 2006. I’m mostly playing my gnome warlock, in my mid-fourties or something. I read up and try to participate on the Allakhazam boards, gathering and exchanging knowledge with others.
Comes a post asking whether +healing does anything for warlocks, and I promptly reply with no way, fuhgetaboudit. I get promptly slapped on my wrist by the forum elders and advised to test stuff out for myself before I post without knowing.
So off I go to the sandy Dunes of Tanaris, a +healing glove I made myself (I was a tailor by then, and mostly broke, go figure) ready. Unequipped my normal handwraps, found a mob, drained life, killed it, found one of his same-level twins, put on the glove, drained, and was proven a fool. My drain life was affected by +healing.
Fast forward to last week. Same forum, same question. Hey, I haven’t played my lock in ages, but I know the answer to that question, tried it out myself. Safe with that knowledge, I corrected all the previous posters telling them that contrary to their beliefs, +healing did work, albeit whether they’d want to stack it was a different question. I even hastily pasted a wowwiki page which explains how the mechanisms work, which I hadn’t re-read in ages anyway.
And promptly (you saw that coming by a mile), I get slapped on the wrist, with a quote from the exact same wowwiki page clearly stating that drain life did not benefit from +healing, stfu noob (not really, the poster didn’t even rub it much).
Test time. Logged on to my good ole gnome warlock who had been gathering dust in Honour Hold’s tavern listening to an officer whine and ramble since TBC got released. Flew to Shatt and spent about two minutes wondering why the damn red portals didn’t activate. Finally clicked on a blue one which took me to Ironforge, browsed the AH, bought a +healing belt.
Remembered where the flight master is, hopped on a griphon to Thorium Point, and did the test. 123 per tick without a belt. Screenshotted, put on the belt, muttering under my breath about forum know-it-alls and fully prepared to show them, backed up with screenshots, that they should test stuff before talking.
Drained a second mob.
123 per tick.
I had some crow for dinner that evening. Tasted exactly like the one I ate in 2006.
