“So, Gwaendar, what’s your take on the Death Knight?”, asked a guildie last night.
I don’t have any. There’s a lot of hype around, and some people are getting already really riled up. I feel that the current description on paper sounds interesting, but so far, it’s little more than a paper concept with a bit of Marketing Shiny wrapped around it.
Blizzard themselves will admit they haven’t gone too far beyond the basic design specs so far - to wit, Drysc on unlocking mechanisms:
“A lot of the questions surrounding how the Death Knight will be unlocked, how it becomes available, what the ‘unlocking’ actually accounts for (is it one time per unlock, the entire realm, the entire account, etc.), are all still questions we’re asking ourselves.”
Not until late open beta will we start having a clear picture of how the class will play, and if past performance is any indication, there will be some important tuning within the 3 months following WOTLK’s release.
Purely on the concept, while the rune system sounds interesting, I’m rather happy with the tanking / healing hybrid pallie I’m having, except his lack of decent solo killing speed. If I felt the lure of playing a DPS class once more, I still have a level 60 lock I could level some day. But the urge to play the damagemeters instead of the game hasn’t manifested itself since TBC.
OK, that was a whole lot of nothing. I’m verbose, I know. Anyway, no opinion from me so far until I hear concrete information from players actually, you know, playing the thing.
